Borrowing Scheme: Individual Membership 
Any member of the public can join Birmingham City University libraries as an external borrower subject to the conditions below.
CONDITIONS
1. a) The subscription charge for membership for 12 months is £75.00 (£62.50 + VAT)
b) The charge for senior citizens and unemployed persons is £15.00 (£12.50 + VAT)
c) The charge for students who have undertaken any Birmingham City University course is £35.00 (£29.17 + VAT)
d) Fee Exempt membership is only usually available to:
· those associated with the work of the University, such as external examiners or members of the governing body
· retired members of the University staff
· students on the validated courses shown below.

2. Applications for membership should be made at the Help Desk.
3. Applicants will need to provide proof of address and relevant proof for fee exempt or reduced fee.
4. Borrowing rights will apply upon issue of a library borrowing ticket.
5. Subscribers must comply with the Librarys rules and regulations. Non compliance may result in immediate withdrawal of access and borrowing rights.
6. Subscribers are eligible to borrow items from any of the Birmingham City University Libraries:

Registration can take place at any one of the
above.
7. Subscribers may
borrow any item of library stock that is made available for loan at the discretion of the
Director of Library and Learning Resources. This excludes all audio/visual material and items from the High Demand collection..
8. The maximum number of items to be on loan to a subscriber at any one time is
four.
9. Subscribers are responsible for all library material taken out in their name.
10. There is no limit on the number of reservations which can be placed on Library
stock subject to the overall loan of the agreed number of items.
11. The Inter Library Loan service is available to subscribers at full cost.
12. Loan periods are indicated on individual items. All items are to be
returned or renewed on time to any Birmingham City
University library.
13. The sanctions applicable for the non-return of library items by the specified
date apply to all library users. This includes subscribers to the External Borrowing
Scheme.
14. Library cards are only for use by the person that they are issued to.
15. Applications for renewal of the subscription are to be made to the Help Desk.

The Research Students borrowing scheme is for those undertaking research at Birmingham City University who wish to apply for library registration prior to official enrolment. It is a scheme whereby a refundable deposit of £30.00 is charged.
Applications should be made on a Research Students Application for Special Entitlement form and handed into the Help Desk. Click here for form or obtain a copy from the Help Desk.
SCONUL Access 
Who can join SCONUL Access?
SCONUL Access is a reciprocal service supported by most of the higher education libraries of the UK and Ireland.

The full list of participating libraries can be found via the links www.access.sconul.ac.uk . Please note that some libraries do not offer borrowing to all the types of user listed above. Please consult the list of participating libraries for local conditions.
To register with the scheme Birmingham City University applicants need to complete an application form, copies of which are available at each library and which can also be downloaded . Completed forms should be handed in at the Help Desk at any of the Birmingham City University libraries. Successful applicants will be issued with a SCONUL Access membership card which they should take, with their Birmingham City University library card, to whichever library or libraries they wish to join.
SCONUL Access members from other institutions are required to register with Birmingham City University Libraries during staffed hours. You will need to show your SCONUL Access card and your ID card from your home institution.
