Using Other Libraries

Academic Libraries
Many academic libraries allow access to students and academic staff from other universities for reference purposes, but conditions do vary. The Sconul Access scheme provides borrowing membership of other academic libraries. For more information go to the Borrowing Schemes page or the Sconul website

Before visiting another library it is advisable to check on the library’s website for information about access arrangements and opening hours. Links to university libraries can be found here.

Public Libraries
Students and staff may also want to use public libraries in the region. The Birmingham Central Library is one of the largest and most important public libraries in Europe. There are also 39 community libraries thoughout the city. Further information can be found on the Birmingham Libraries web site.

British Library
To use the British Library Reading Rooms at St Pancras in London, a Reader's Pass is required. An application for a Reader's Pass must be accompanied by suitable identification.
Research, undergraduate and taught post graduate students (e.g. PhD, MPhil, DPhil, BA, BEd, BSc, MA, MSc) need to take proof that indicates their research level, e.g. a student card, registration form or letter on headed paper from the university. Find more information at http://www.bl.uk/
