Using Other Libraries
Academic Libraries
Many academic libraries allow
access to students and academic staff from other universities for reference
purposes, but conditions do vary. The Sconul Access scheme provides
borrowing
membership of other academic libraries. For more information go to the

Before visiting another library it is advisable to check on
the library’s website for information about access arrangements and opening

Get an NHS ATHENS
username to access online databases, electronic books and full text
electronic journal

Public
Libraries
Students and staff may also want to use public libraries in the
region. The Birmingham Central Library is one of the largest and most important
public libraries in Europe. There are also 39 community libraries thoughout the

British Library
To use the British Library Reading
Rooms at St Pancras in London, a Reader's Pass is required. An application for a
Reader's Pass must be accompanied by suitable identification. Research,
undergraduate and taught post graduate students (e.g. PhD, MPhil, DPhil, BA,
BEd, BSc, MA, MSc) need to take proof that indicates their research level, e.g.
a student card, registration form or letter on headed paper from the university.
