BIAD - College of Art ( Margaret Street ) : The College of Art Library supports the School of Fine Art and the School of Art Education, which includes the BA(Hons), MA, MPhil, and PhD courses studied at the campus. The library houses an Artists collection (books, slides and videos), Photographers collection, Journal collection, along with a selection of feature films on DVD

What's New at MARGARET STREET

Collection Development Plan for BIAD Libraries

We are currently involved in an assessment of the range and quality of stock held within BIAD libraries, with the view to improving our selection of books, journals and AV stock.

The main advantages of this assessment will be to:

	Avoid unnecessary duplication across the 4 sites
	Purchase new editions or additional copies of heavily borrowed items and items on reading lists
	Purchase current titles and items suggested by you, our staff and students
	Discard out-of-date and inaccurate material
	Replace material which has only monochrome illustrations with newer, more attractive titles

In order to help our decision making we have obtained statistical data from our library management system ‘Talis’. This data has helped us to identify areas of stock across our sites which are either not circulating well or date back to pre-1980. As our main priority is to offer a proactive and vibrant library service, we would like to develop a stock which primarily reflects the current art scene and educational practice. Obviously, we still recognise the value of items of an historical nature, especially those which support teaching carried out within the THS department, and look towards protecting this stock for future users. With this is mind, we are in the process of editing and repairing our collections across BIAD to create a healthier balanced stock which meets the needs of our users more effectively.

Any suggestions from both staff and students would be most welcome.
